On July 5, Pastor Larry delivered a very good message about perspective. In his message he said “Through everything that has happened, we must remember that God is still on the throne”.
We must never lose sight of that no matter what.
A couple of other things that Pastor Larry said got me thinking about 3 specific characters in the Bible. I am sure you all know who they are and their story when I tell you their names.
I am talking about Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. 3 faithful characters from the book of
In Daniel 3:15 Nebuchadnezzar said to them: 15 Now when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, if you are ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very good. But if you do not worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?”
The three men did not fall down to worship the image Nebuchadnezzar created so he heated up the furnace 7 times hotter than it normally was, bound them with ropes and threw them in the furnace thinking they would be consumed by the fire immediately. Even the soldiers who tied them up were killed by the flames when they threw the 3 of them in. Nebuchadnezzar started to walk away when he heard singing (according to some commentaries) and realized it was coming from the furnace. When he looked in the furnace, he saw 4 men walking around loose in the flames. He did not understand that the 4th man was the Son of God.
Then Nebuchadnezzar shouted for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to come out of the furnace. They walked out and their clothes were not burned nor was a hair on their heads singed.
From their perspective, God would either save them from the furnace or if God did not, they would die in their faith and not serve Nebuchadnezzar’s gods or worship the gold statue he made.
The two things that Pastor Larry said in his message that started me thinking of these three and the furnace were: “Do things God’s way not our way” and “Never allow fear to overcome our faith”.
Live like Shadrach, Meschach and Abednego and don’t allow fear to overcome our faith because the God that saved these three is the same God that is with us today. God never changes, so do things God’s way and not our way!
